Summer Bar Graphs
Team Ronzio developed questions that had to do with summer. Then by working with a partner, students had to collect data on their questions and create a bar graph to show the data they collected. Check out our awesome graphs below!
Measurement Mania!
Team Ronzio finished up a unit on measurement. We measured items to the nearest inch and centimeter. We also went on scavenger hunts around the room and played games that delt with various forms of measurement.
Talking Math With Your Kids
Below is a great website on how to talk about math with your kids. This website was recommended by the math coordinator of CPS.
Measurement - Nonstandard units
Team Ronzio started their measurement unit by understanding what was considered nonstandard units of measurement. Students had to work together to find the length of different strips of paper around the room. Some groups used pencils, star points, books, etc for their measuring tools. The next day Team Ronzio worked with different partners to go on a scavenger hunt around the room to find obejcts of different sizes with blue and orange pieces of paper. Students found that 1 orange piece of paper was exactly 1/2 a blue piece of paper. This great noticing allowed Team Ronzio to make great connections to standard units of measurement.
Place Value Find
To practice our knowledge of place value, as well as the different ways numbers can be represented, students participated in a group find! Each student was given a piece of paper with a number. Every number in a group of five was represented in a different way. For example, a group for 313 would have the following pieces of paper:
1) 313
2) Three hundred thirteen
3) 300+10+3
4) 3 hundreds, 1 ten, 3 ones
5) Place value blocks
Students would have to find all of the people in their group and sit down in a circle once everyone was found. The first group to sit down won! It was a fun, loud, and crazy game. :)

Rock - Paper - Scissors 2 digit addition game and Matching Time
Team Ronzio learned two different math games! They reinforce the math concepts of adding multiple two digit numbers together as well as telling time.
1=Rock, paper, scissors two digit addition
2=Matching Time
1=Rock, paper, scissors two digit addition
2=Matching Time
GREAT job problem solving and showing your work! This was a difficult math problem.
Headband Geometry Review Game
In order to review for our geometry test, students played a guess my shape game with partners.
T-Shirt Factories
In math we have been creating our own t-shirt factories. We came up with a name, building design, and logo for our factory. We also calculated the total number of shirts we had to sell. As individuals we calculated the amount of small, medium, large, and extra large shirts that we had to sell as well. Below are pictures of us presenting our factories to the class.
