Students have been working hard for the past week reseraching various presidents. With partners, students ranked the top three presidents that they were interested in learning more about. After being assigned one of their top choices, students worked together to learn when and where their president was born, what he was most famous for, and interesting facts. At the end, students were able to list a question they would want to ask their specific president.

Welcome Rosie to room 202! Rosie is visiting us from Paris, France. She is currently working as a costume desginer for movies. Her favorite part of the school day is watching Team Ronzio work together to learn and gain knowledge. This past weekend, Rosie traveled to St. Louis with Ms. Ronzio. While in St. Louis Rosie met Mama and Papa Ronz, went shopping at the new outlet malls, and ate TONS of homecooked meals. Stay tuned for more Rosie adventures! WELCOME BACK!
Team Ronzio had a great three days back from winter break! We reviewed expectations, learned about what everyone did over their winter break, and welcomed a new friend to room 202. We continued to work on non-fiction writing, geometry, and building our reading stamina. On Friday we took our economics test and all of the superstars did GREAT! Ms. Ronzio cannot wait to see what Team Ronzio will accomplish throughout the rest of 2014! Below is a reminder about room 202 for all superstars! In science we are working on landforms. We finished our Earth surface unit with an experiment over water runoff in soil. In math we are working on subtraction strategies and subtraction problems. Today we built a timeline. In word study we are working on building words with digraphs by making snowmen. If you were building the word “chat” the snowmen’s head would have a “c,” the next snowball in his body would have a “ch,” they next snowball in his body would have “cha,” and the last snowball in his body would have the complete word “chat.” We are sad that one of our friends is moving...we will miss him very much, but will definitely keep in touch!
Today on November 22 we worked on making posters in science for our experiment we did. We are including our group’s question, hypothesis, procedure, trial data, and conclusion. In math we are working with how many years it will take Maria and Carlos to become the age of their mom, dad, grandpa, grandma, and great-grandpa. (timelines) We learned a new subtraction game today. (Turkey bump). We did a volcano experiment too and learned about magma and lava. Ms. Ronzio is having her friend who was in the Peace Corps come in and talk to us about Africa. We thought of questions to ask him today.
On Tuesday we had math night. There were a lot of games to play with our families. There were about 8 games to play. In science on Thursday we got 4 cups and put soil in each cup. Then we put some water in them. We got a popsicle stick and we started to stir it up. We looked at it. It did not do anything! We looked at the changes on Friday too. In math we made t-shirt factories. We had a lot of shirts! All of the factories all had a lot of t-shorts in them. We named our factories and figured out how many shirts we had in all and in each size.
We are making monsters in writing. Some are really funny and some are scary. In science we are learning what erosion means. We are blowing soil to see the effects of wind and writing in our science journals what has happened. We are also putting ice and water on the soil. In math we are working on place value. We are doing lots of partner work with tens and ones. In reading we have been meeting with Ms. Ronzio and completing our books club jobs. On Thursday we played BINGO with our 4th grade buddies and had our Fall party. In science we are learning how water ice and wind slowly change the earth. In math we’ve been working on counting items and recording how many tens and ones are in that number. In word work we made blend spiders to decorate our room for Halloween. We typed in our small moment stories to share at our brown bag lunch. We’ve started a book called Horrible Harry at Halloween for read aloud. We read the Remarkable Adaptable Turtle. Our computer keeper was sick towards the end of the week so we teamed up together to write our blog. In writing this week we came up with titles for our small moment stories. We also had writing circles to share our stories and receive feedback from our peers. To help enhance our stories we found powerful craft moves that the authors from our book boxes used in their stories and applied them to our own writing. We are so excited to start publishing our final small moment story, in the computer lab, next week. This week in math we started Fastt Math. Fastt Math helps us improve our fluency on our math facts. We also started a new unit on repeated addition and arrays. On Friday we graphed the data from our online Fall survey. We are very excited to start our new science unit on Earth's Surface...but the weather isn't cooperating with our outdoor experiments. So, to be problem solvers we have been talking about friendship and what qualities we look for in friends. On Friday we started "WANTED FRIEND" posters. This week Ms. Ronzio checked out iPads for our class. We were able to play on the apps, practice spelling our word study words, and practice our addition math facts on different apps. Some apps that we have enjoyed are: - Rocket Speller - Spelling 2 and Spelling 3 - My Math App - Master the Math - Math Drills Stack the States - Pottery - Virtuoso - tinker Paint This week in writing we worked on setting goals for ourselves. We also wrote our Chilean pen pals. In reading we had reading groups. In math we drew beads on pieces of paper to figure out if they would work in different patterns. In science we made kidneys. Today in science we made pretzels. They were very good. We beat our star point goal twice and have a total of 40! (That’s only 10 points away from another superstar celebration!!)
