One superstar used his free writing time to write a persuasive piece about a video game. This superstar then presented his powerpoint to his parents. Let's see what the outcome will be! :)
NO SKYDIVING
I think we should not have skydiving because you could break a leg and then you can’t walk very well. My second reason we should not skydive because you might fall into the ocean and die if you don’t know how to swim. You could also get eaten by a shark. If your parachute doesn’t work you could die. We should not skydive because if the wind is strong enough your parachute might break and you could fall to your death. That’s why you should not skydive. Animal habitats
I hope you agree with me and the animals because their homes or habitats are getting destroyed by humans. People are cutting down animals habitats that are trees. If that happens, little animals out there will be caught by their predators and people who are hunting them. People are also digging up animal’s homes underground. Snakes have homes in underground burrows and snakes help the eco-system which is good; but snakes sometimes kill people or injure them. There are snakes that live in trees too, so if you dig, cut or both it could be bad. That is why I care about the animals and their habitats and homes. ZOO ANIMALS SHOULD BE TREATED BETTER Zoo animals should be treated better. Don’t you agree? There’s a zoo in Indonesia called ZOO OF DEATH. It has a tiger and you can actually see its bones but luckily it’s still alive, but it is suffering from starvation. There’s also a giraffe that got x-rayed and they found a ball of plastic in its stomach from people littering in its pen. There are a ton of animals that are sick from people giving them human food. The ZOO OF DEATH should be better to their animals. They should give them way more food, don’t let people litter and don’t let people give animals’ human food. I feel strong about basketball and here are some reasons why. I think it is the most fun game ever made because I love throwing things and dunking things. The second reason is because when I grow up I want to be a professional basketball player. That’s because I love basketball. The third reason is because it is fun to watch. Since I’m not as good it’s fun to watch them do cool dunks and shoot three’s. The fourth reason is because there are so many different ways to score, including a fade away, a turnaround fade away, a dunk, a two pointer, a three pointer, and many more. Another reason is because I like to be active. Because being active helps your heart and being active is AWESOME! And that is why I feel strong about basketball.
Team Ronzio had to form an opinion on whether or not homework should be assigned. Students presented there opinion in many different formats such as a video, powerpoint, magazine articles, and papers. Below is a magazine article written by a superstarHomework
In my opinion we should not have homework. Here are a few reasons why. One reason is that we need to play outside. We need to play outside because we need vitamin D. Vitamin D helps your body. Another reason is that we can’t just be working all the time. We need to not be working all the time because we need to have time to spend time with our families and friends. Also we do not need homework because we need to have fun! We need to have fun by being active and by being active we’re healthy! And don’t forget we just had school! In other words we can just do the homework at school! Another reason is that we should play with our pets. We should play with our pets because then we will learn how to be responsible by taking care of our pets. That is why we should not have homework. Team Ronzio had to develop an opinion if we needed a spring break or not and then tell the audience why they felt that certain way. We had 3 groups present why they think we need a spring break and 1 group present why we do not need a spring break. Each group worked together to write our their opinion and supporting reasons. They the group created a way to present their ideas to the class. There were 2 powerpoints, 1 poster, and 1 video. Awesome work Team Ronzio!
Students were to write an opinion piece about their idea of the best pet. Below are some great examples! This was only our second opinion writing piece! Turtle example:Mini Horse 1st example:Mini Horse 2nd example:This week Team Ronzio studied homophones. Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings AND spellings. Below are pictures of the homophones we thought of, as well as our homo"phone booth." (Students were given iPhone outlines to write their word, draw a picture of the word, and use the word correctly in a sentence) To kick off our opinion writing unit, Team Ronzio had to decide if they believed in Leprechauns. Students had to support their opinion with three reasons. They published a paragraph that included an introduction, their three reasons to support their opinion, and a conclusion. Here is Team Ronzio working hard on their writings! During our writing time today, two co-author's shared the first chapter of their non-fiction book. Enjoy their hard work! Today students planned out their informational writing projects. We have many creative minds and co-authors at work in room 202. Below is a list of topics the superstars are writing about...ask your child what they have planned for their project. :)
Project Ideas: - Cookbooks - Animal books over: - Penguins - Animals and their Habitats - Lions - Cats - Horses - Locations: - Australia - Space - Caves - Sports books - NBA - Mizzou vs. Auburn football game highlights - Heisman trophy winners - How to play videogame books Last week, Team Ronzio had writing homework over fall. They were to write down adjectives that described fall and use them in a sentence. Then, students were to write about their favorite fall activity. Below are some AWESOME examples of thoughtful writings! Enjoy :) In our new informational unit, we are learning how to write like scientists. Yesterday we worked on revising our experiment procedures. We added a materials box, step by step pictures, and detailed directions for others to follow. On Friday we extended our share chair time because our authors were using some powerful craft moves in their stories! Check out the below samples to see how we are adding details and helping our readers create mental movies in their minds. In a story about Mindcraft, this author added in a sentence using our post-it note strategy... "After my house blew up, I sighed. I said "Better luck next time!" This author used a craft move from our read aloud book: I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic. She started out with a description of how she felt when we arrived at school and then flashed back to when her mom woke her up 50 minutes earlier...how creative! This author made sure to answer the following questions before he started writing his story: Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How. This pre-writing strategy allowed him to organize his thoughts and details. As we was writing his story he added in a wonderful sound effect that made the reader feel as if they were shoe shopping with this author. Sound Post-it = "I jumped into the car. Vroom, vroom, the car engine roared!" Students are trying out this new pre-writing strategy. The circle allows students to get a visual of how their story will stay on one topic. The numbers then help the students write down events and details in order.
This week we started working with our writing partners. Our partners help us become better authors by reading over our work, telling us what they like, and giving suggestions on what we can improve. This week we focused on helping each other with checking if our story flowed, if it made sense, if we had capital letters, and if we used punctuation. |
